  1. We had a barbecue on sunday . I bought a new barbecue , its one of those oil drum affairs , I used the assembly instructions to light the barbecue. Not sure i really get this barbecue thing. The neighbours , and you judging by these pictures seem to make it an event where they sit arounf the embers of the fire chatting ruminating and philosophising . We seem to eat in shifts and everyone going home when the washing up needs doing , some are born to be square , I did have some of that german stuff Jagermeister , tasted like the medicine I used to be forced to swallow as a child . The bucket attachment on the other barbecue had rusted through. I used the grill to stop the coals falling out the hole. Unfortunatley the through draft turned it into vesuvias with flames liking around the outside . The briquettes lasted all of 3 mins in the inferno

  2. Yours is perhaps nearest to a 'pure' barbecue using what is to hand an scavenging. I have a barbecue which is at least flame from briquettes flavoured with parraffin firelighter but hey live the life. But I was tempted to a gas barbecue using bottled gas which seems to be moving away from the aboriginal spirit of the whole thing whereas you uncle in Aus is going for a mains fed gas barbecue so once he gets the roof on will be , what shall we call it , ah i know a kitchen.
